Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 bunch Swiss Chard large, chopped
  • 1 tbsp Olive Oil
  • 1/2 Onion chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic minced
  • 6 large Eggs
  • 1 cup Milk
  • 1/2 cup Heavy Cream
  • 1 cup Shredded Cheese e.g., Gruyere or Cheddar
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1/4 tsp Black Pepper

Equipment

  • Oven
  • 9-inch pie dish or 8x8 inch baking dish
  • Large skillet
  • Large bowl
  • Whisk

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9-inch pie dish or an 8x8 inch baking dish.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat, then sauté the chopped onion until it softens, which takes about 5 minutes.
  3. Add the minced garlic and chopped Swiss chard to the skillet, cooking until the chard wilts and any liquid has evaporated, approximately 5-7 minutes. Remove the skillet from the heat.
  4. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, shredded cheese, salt, and pepper until the mixture is well combined.
  5. Stir the cooked Swiss chard mixture into the prepared egg and cheese mixture.
  6. Pour the entire quiche mixture into the prepared baking dish and bake for 40-50 minutes, or until the quiche is set and has a lightly golden brown top.
  7. Allow the quiche to cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

For a richer flavor, consider adding a pinch of nutmeg to the egg mixture. Serve warm or at room temperature.
