Preparation
- Wash and hull the strawberries, then quarter any larger ones to ensure even cooking.
- In a medium saucepan, combine the prepared strawberries, granulated sugar, and lemon juice. Add water if desired for a slightly thinner compote.
- Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the strawberries soften and the mixture thickens, about 10-15 minutes. Lightly mash some berries for a chunkier texture if preferred.
- Remove from heat and let the compote cool completely before serving or storing.

This compote can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week. It's delicious warm or cold!
