Cooking Instructions
- Divide ground beef into 4 equal balls and prepare your desired toppings.
- Heat a cast-iron skillet or griddle over high heat until smoking, then lightly butter or oil. Toast the burger buns until golden brown and set aside.
- Place beef balls on the hot surface, smash each with a spatula until very thin, and season generously with salt and pepper.
- Cook for 60-90 seconds until a deep crust forms, then scrape, flip, and immediately top with a slice of cheese. Cook for another 30-60 seconds until cheese is melted and patty is cooked through.
- Assemble the burgers on the toasted buns with the cheesy patties and your preferred toppings. Serve immediately.
Notes
For the best crust, ensure your cooking surface is extremely hot before smashing the patties.
