  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened Ensure butter is at room temperature for better mixing.
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For Rolling
  • 1 cup powdered sugar

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, mix together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until fluffy.
  4. Beat in the egg, red food coloring, and vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until combined.
  6. Chill the dough for at least 30 minutes.
Baking
  1. Roll tablespoons of dough into balls and then roll them in powdered sugar.
  2. Place them on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  3. Bake for 10-12 minutes until the cookies are set and crinkled.
  4. Let them cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

These cookies can be enjoyed straight from the oven or after they have cooled. Store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. For longer storage, freeze them in a single layer with parchment paper between layers for up to three months. Don’t skip chilling the dough; it helps the cookies maintain their shape while baking.
