  • 6 slices Bread, cubed
  • 2 cups Shredded cheddar cheese
  • 10 Large eggs

  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon Dry mustard

Equipment

  • Large skillet
  • Large bowl

Method

Preparation
  1. Brown the ground breakfast sausage in a large skillet over medium heat, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain any excess grease and set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, black pepper, and dry mustard until well combined.
  3. Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  4. Layer the bottom of the prepared baking dish with the cubed bread, then sprinkle the cooked sausage evenly over the bread.
  5. Top the sausage with the shredded cheddar cheese, distributing it evenly.
  6. Carefully pour the egg mixture over the layers in the baking dish, ensuring all the bread is moistened.
  7. Cover the baking dish tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 8 hours, or preferably overnight.
  8. The next morning, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  9. Remove the casserole from the refrigerator and uncover.
  10. Bake for 45-55 minutes, or until the casserole is set and golden brown on top.
  11. Let the casserole rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, add a pinch of red pepper flakes with the sausage. You can also customize with your favorite vegetables like bell peppers or spinach. Ensure the casserole rests for a few minutes after baking before serving.
