- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 9x13 inch baking pan by greasing and flouring it, or lining with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, ground ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt, then set this dry mixture aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and brown sugar until the mixture becomes light and fluffy.
- Beat in the molasses, then add the eggs one at a time, ensuring each is fully incorporated before adding the next.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the hot water; begin and end with the dry ingredients, mixing only until just combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow to cool before serving.
