Preparation
- In a small saucepan, combine the milk, sugar (if using), and a pinch of salt. Heat over medium heat until the mixture is simmering gently, but do not boil.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the chopped dark chocolate and vanilla extract. Whisk continuously until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is smooth and glossy.
- Carefully pour the hot chocolate mixture into small shot glasses or espresso cups. Serve immediately, optionally garnished with whipped cream, mini marshmallows, or chocolate shavings.
Notes
For an extra rich flavor, use high-quality dark chocolate. You can also add a splash of liqueur like KahlĂșa or Baileys for an adult version.
