Preparation
- Start by gathering all your ingredients. Chop the dark chocolate into small pieces to help it melt easily.
- In a medium saucepan, combine the whole milk and heavy cream.
Cooking
- Heat the mixture over medium-low heat, stirring gently until it is warm but not boiling.
- Once warm, add the chopped dark chocolate to the milk mixture. Stir continuously until the chocolate melts completely and the mixture is smooth.
- If you like your hot chocolate sweeter, add the sugar and mix well. You can also add the vanilla extract at this stage.
Serving
- Pour the hot chocolate into mugs. Top with whipped cream or marshmallows, if desired. Serve immediately and enjoy!
Notes
Homemade French Hot Chocolate is best enjoyed hot. Serve it alongside cookies or pastries for a delightful treat. For an extra touch, sprinkle some cocoa powder or cinnamon on top of the whipped cream. If you have leftovers, store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
