Ingredients
  

For the dough
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed Make sure butter is very cold for a flakier crust.
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup cold water
For the filling and topping
  • 1/2 cup chocolate fudge filling Can customize sweetness by mixing in powdered sugar.
  • 1 each egg (for egg wash)
  • to taste Powdered sugar (for icing, optional)
  • to taste Milk (for icing, optional)

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix together flour, cocoa powder, and salt.
  3. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in sugar and add cold water gradually, mixing until a dough forms.
  5. Divide the dough in half and roll out each half into a rectangle.
  6. Cut into smaller rectangles for the pop tart shape.
Assembly
  1. Place a spoonful of chocolate fudge filling on half of the rectangles.
  2. Top with the other half, sealing the edges with a fork.
  3. Brush the tops with beaten egg.
Baking
  1. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
  2. Mix powdered sugar with a little milk for icing if desired, and drizzle over cooled pop tarts.

Notes

Serve warm or at room temperature, great with milk or ice cream. Store in an airtight container.
