Ingredients
  

Dough Ingredients
  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.25 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter, cold and diced Make sure butter is cold for flaky crust.
  • 0.25 cup ice water
Filling Ingredients
  • 1 cup apple, peeled and diced Tart apples like Granny Smith work well.
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 0.25 cup brown sugar Sweeten to taste; add more for sweeter filling.
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 each egg (for egg wash) Optional for a shiny finish.
  • to taste Powdered sugar (for glaze, optional)

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt. Add cold butter and blend until crumbly. Stir in ice water until the dough forms.
  3. Roll out the dough on a floured surface and cut it into rectangles.
Filling Preparation
  1. In another bowl, combine apples, cinnamon, brown sugar, and lemon juice.
Assembly and Baking
  1. Place a spoonful of the apple mixture on one half of each rectangle, then fold the other half over and seal the edges.
  2. Brush with egg wash.
  3. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
  4. Let cool, then glaze with powdered sugar if desired.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or freeze for up to a month. Make the dough a day in advance and wrap tightly to store in the fridge.
