  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Use softened butter for easier mixing.
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3/4 teaspoon almond extract
Decoration
  • Colored sugar or frosting For decoration, use colored sugar or frosting as desired.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a small bowl, stir together flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients.
  4. Roll rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into balls, and place them onto ungreased cookie sheets.
  5. Press heart-shaped cookie cutters into the dough to create heart shapes.
  6. Sprinkle with colored sugar or frost as desired.
Baking
  1. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until golden.
  2. Let cool on wire racks.
