How to Make Buttercream
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter until light and fluffy using an electric mixer.
- Gradually add the sifted powdered sugar, one cup at a time, mixing on low speed until combined, then increase speed and beat until smooth.
- Pour in the heavy cream or milk and vanilla extract, then continue to beat on medium-high speed until the frosting is light, airy, and spreadable.
- Add a pinch of salt and mix briefly to balance the sweetness, adjusting the consistency with more liquid if needed.
Notes
For a whiter frosting, use clear vanilla extract. If the frosting is too thick, add more cream or milk; if too thin, add more powdered sugar.
