Brownies
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8x8 inch baking pan with parchment paper, ensuring an overhang on the sides.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter and granulated sugar until they are well combined.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract until fully incorporated.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, and salt; gradually add these dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined without overmixing.
- Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs.
- Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack before proceeding to frost them.
Frosting
- In a medium bowl, cream together the softened butter and powdered sugar until the mixture is smooth and fluffy.
- Stir in the milk and vanilla extract until the desired frosting consistency is achieved.
- If using food coloring, divide the frosting into two bowls; add a few drops of red food coloring to one bowl and green to the other, mixing until the desired colors are achieved.
- Evenly spread the colored frosting over the completely cooled brownies.
- Decorate with holiday sprinkles if desired, then cut the brownies into squares and serve.
Notes
For extra festive brownies, use red and green food coloring for the frosting and decorate with holiday sprinkles. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
