  • 2 slices slices of bread (preferably brioche or challah) Brioche or challah works best for frying.
  • 2 ounces duck confit Use high-quality duck confit for the best flavor.
  • 1 slice Gruyère cheese Can substitute with Swiss or Havarti if needed.
  • 1 slice cooked ham
  • 2 large eggs For the egg mixture.
  • 1/4 cup milk For the egg mixture.
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Butter for frying
  • Powdered sugar For serving.
  • Jam or fruit preserves For dipping.

Preparation and Cooking
  1. Heat a skillet over medium heat and add a little butter.
  2. Assemble the sandwich by layering duck confit, Gruyère cheese, and ham between the slices of bread.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, salt, and pepper.
  4. Dip the sandwich in the egg mixture, making sure it’s well-coated.
  5. Fry the sandwich in the skillet until golden brown on both sides and the cheese is melted, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  6. Serve hot, dusted with powdered sugar and accompanied by jam or fruit preserves.

Notes

If you have leftovers, wrap the sandwich tightly in plastic wrap or store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It's best consumed within 1-2 days. Reheat in a skillet or oven until warmed through. Experiment with different cheeses and jams for variety.
