- Heat a skillet over medium heat and add a little butter.
- Assemble the sandwich by layering duck confit, Gruyère cheese, and ham between the slices of bread.
- In a bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, salt, and pepper.
- Dip the sandwich in the egg mixture, making sure it’s well-coated.
- Fry the sandwich in the skillet until golden brown on both sides and the cheese is melted, about 3-4 minutes per side.
- Serve hot, dusted with powdered sugar and accompanied by jam or fruit preserves.
Notes
If you have leftovers, wrap the sandwich tightly in plastic wrap or store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It's best consumed within 1-2 days. Reheat in a skillet or oven until warmed through. Experiment with different cheeses and jams for variety.
