Preparation
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish. Spread bread cubes on a baking sheet and toast for 10-15 minutes until lightly golden and dry.
- In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add chopped onions and celery, cooking until softened, about 8-10 minutes.
- Transfer the toasted bread cubes to a large mixing bowl. Add the cooked onion and celery mixture, fresh sage, thyme, parsley, salt, and pepper, tossing gently to combine.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the chicken or vegetable broth and lightly beaten eggs. Pour this liquid mixture over the bread mixture, stirring until evenly moistened.
- Spoon the stuffing into the prepared baking dish. Bake uncovered for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the stuffing is heated through. If you prefer a moister stuffing, cover with foil for the first 20 minutes of baking.
- Remove from oven and let stand for 5-10 minutes before serving.
Notes
For extra flavor, you can add cooked sausage or sautéed mushrooms to the stuffing mixture before baking. Adjust the amount of broth based on how moist you prefer your stuffing.
