  • 1 loaf brioche bread Use day-old brioche for better absorption.
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup heavy cream Can substitute with coconut milk for a dairy-free version.
  • 1/2 cup milk Can substitute with almond milk for a dairy-free version.
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch salt
  • Sugar for caramelizing Sprinkle a thin layer on top before caramelizing.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Cut the brioche into thick slices and arrange them in a baking dish.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt.
  3. Pour the custard mixture over the brioche, ensuring all pieces are soaked.
  4. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or overnight.
Baking
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Bake the French toast for 30-35 minutes until set and golden brown.
  3. Sprinkle a thin layer of sugar on top and use a kitchen torch or broiler to caramelize the sugar until it forms a crisp crust.
  4. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

Serve warm with fresh berries, sliced bananas, or a drizzle of maple syrup. Dusting of powdered sugar adds appeal. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to three days.
