  • Wire cooling rack
  • Skull molds (silicone or plastic)
  • Piping bag and tip (optional)

Method

Making Cupcakes
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 12-cup muffin pan with paper liners.
  2. Whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt; then beat in softened butter until crumbly.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk eggs, vanilla, and milk; gradually add to the dry mixture, mixing until just combined.
  4. Fill cupcake liners two-thirds full and bake for 18-22 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  5. Cool cupcakes in the pan for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Decorating Skulls
  1. Melt white candy melts or prepare white fondant; press into skull molds and let set until firm.
  2. For frosting, beat softened butter until creamy, then gradually add powdered sugar, cream, and vanilla until smooth and fluffy.
  3. Tint a small portion of frosting black for details if desired, or use food coloring pens.
  4. Frost cooled cupcakes with white frosting, then carefully place a candy skull on top of each.
  5. Use black frosting or food coloring pens to add eye sockets, nose, and mouth details to the skulls.

Notes

For an extra creepy effect, use red gel food coloring to create 'blood' drips on your skull frosting.
