  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
  • 3/4 cup warm milk
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
Filling Ingredients
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup sugar (for filling)
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar (for filling)
  • 1/4 cup chopped nuts (optional)
Egg Wash
  • 1 egg egg (for egg wash)

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a bowl, combine warm milk and yeast; let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, and salt.
  3. Add in the yeast mixture and melted butter; mix until a dough forms. Knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
  4. Let the dough rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
Assembling
  1. Roll out the dough into a rectangle. Spread melted butter, then sprinkle with a mixture of sugar, cinnamon, and nuts if using.
  2. Fold the dough and twist it to create a braid.
  3. Place in a greased loaf pan and let it rise again for 30 minutes.
Baking
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Brush with egg wash and bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown.
  3. Let cool before serving.

Notes

Best served warm with butter, and pairs well with coffee or milk. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2-3 days. For longer storage, wrap tightly in plastic and freeze.
