Preparation
- In a bowl, combine warm milk and yeast; let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, and salt.
- Add in the yeast mixture and melted butter; mix until a dough forms. Knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
- Let the dough rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
Assembling
- Roll out the dough into a rectangle. Spread melted butter, then sprinkle with a mixture of sugar, cinnamon, and nuts if using.
- Fold the dough and twist it to create a braid.
- Place in a greased loaf pan and let it rise again for 30 minutes.
Baking
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Brush with egg wash and bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown.
- Let cool before serving.
Notes
Best served warm with butter, and pairs well with coffee or milk. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2-3 days. For longer storage, wrap tightly in plastic and freeze.
