Red Velvet Coating
  • 10 oz White chocolate chips
  • 1-2 tsp Red food coloring liquid or gel
  • 1/4 cup Powdered sugar
  • 1 tbsp Unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 tsp Vanilla extract

Equipment

  • Large pot
  • Large heatproof bowl
  • Spatula
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper

Method

Prepare Popcorn
  1. Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat, add kernels, cover, and cook, shaking occasionally, until popping stops.
  2. Pour popped popcorn into a large bowl and remove any unpopped kernels.
Make Red Velvet Coating
  1. Melt white chocolate chips in a heatproof bowl over simmering water or in the microwave, stirring until smooth.
  2. Stir in red food coloring, powdered sugar, cocoa powder, and vanilla extract until well combined and the color is vibrant.
Combine and Chill
  1. Pour the red velvet coating over the popped popcorn, gently tossing until evenly coated.
  2. Spread the coated popcorn onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and let it cool completely until the chocolate hardens.

Notes

For an extra spooky touch, drizzle with a little melted dark chocolate to mimic blood spatter once the red velvet coating has set.
