Ingredients
  

For the Donuts
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk Can substitute with regular milk.
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Glaze
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup Use high-quality for best flavor.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a donut pan.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, mix the buttermilk, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract.
  4. Combine the wet and dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  5. Fill the donut pan about 3/4 full with batter.
Baking
  1. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  2. Allow the donuts to cool slightly before removing them from the pan.
Glazing
  1. For the glaze, whisk together powdered sugar and maple syrup until smooth.
  2. Dip the top of each donut into the glaze and let it set before serving.

Notes

Serve fresh and warm, ideally with coffee or tea. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days, or refrigerate for up to a week. Freezing without glaze is an option for up to 3 months.
