Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder For a richer flavor, use dark cocoa powder.
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk To make buttermilk, add 1/2 tablespoon vinegar to regular milk and let it sit for 5 minutes.
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Extras
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips Can be substituted with peanut butter chips or nuts.
  • Powdered sugar for dusting Dust before serving.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a donut pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, mix the egg, buttermilk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract.
  4. Combine the wet and dry ingredients until just blended. Fold in the chocolate chips.
  5. Spoon the batter into the prepared donut pan and fill each cavity about 2/3 full.
Baking
  1. Bake for 10-12 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  2. Allow to cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
Serving
  1. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
  2. Serve warm or at room temperature, ideally with a cup of hot chocolate or coffee.

Notes

To store, place in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, or freeze for up to a month.
